Highview Nutrition Program
Thanks to parent volunteers, Highview offers 2 days per week of classroom food support. We run a "snack" program. On Mondays and Wednesdays, volunteers pack a class bag that includes protein choices (yogurt, cheese), produce (vegetables, fruit) and whole grains (granola bars, crackers, bagels, dry cereal, muffins, cookies). Additional snack items are left in the school office for additional food support. All food items must meet the following Tastebuds nutritional guidelines: SNP nutritional guideline
Our program is primarily funded by Tastebuds Hamilton, a partnership of community agencies and community members that supports and facilitates local student nutrition programs for children and youth in Hamilton. Through Tastebuds, we have also been fortunate to receive gift cards for Metro and Freshco through the Toonies for Tummies donation program. Tastebuds Hamilton is a program of the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton. The Student Nutrition Program is a provincial initiative funded by the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) and administered regionally by Haldimand-Norfolk R.E.A.C.H. We are also fortunate to receive additional funding from donations and school wide fundraising.
We are so lucky to have 2 dedicated parent volunteers who visit the school every Monday and Wednesday to prepare and deliver classroom bags. One of those volunteers also orders/purchases all food and submits monthly financial reports to Tastebuds. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING WITH OUR NUTRITION PROGRAM, PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL OFFICE AT 905-385-2341.
